I have been working on practice oral presentations for my IB theatre class using Google Voice and audacity. The google voice has a time limit of 3 minutes, so that was a bit of a problem. Students were calling in and leaving 7 voicemails and piecing them together. We ended up using Audacity in the classroom with borrowed headphones and mics from the technology department in order to help students record. Several other students used their own ipods and home recording devices.
