I have been using blogger daily for the past couple of weeks and really love it. Right, now I'm still pretty basic, just posting daily homework updates and reminders of upcoming events. But I invision having it be more interactice, posting questions for homework and allowing/encouraging students to post responses and read each other's thoughts. I also have set a blog up for the girls soccer teams, but just getting started with that. Angie helped me link it to Facebook, so everything I post in the blog goes directly to those that prefer to access info that way. I'm loving it, and that's a big step for me. The coolest is that I typically enter info from my phone so, I don't even need to be in front of my computer. I want to make it a bigger part of my class than just a homework reminder.
In terms of student devices in class, I have been surprised that students do not have as much "stuff" as I thought they might. In a typical middle school class, I'm finding 5-6 students on average with data plans on their phones, so we haven't been able to utilize my blog in class yet as much as I would like. To date, I've had one student bring in a tablet, no p.c. yet. I am encouraging them to do so, but just not getting the response. That leads to the other frustration that most of my students still have not "liked" my facebook or taken the time to enter an email account to follow the blog. I am probably at around 20% of my class using one or the other. But, I'm excited about the possibilities and enjoying the new communication piece.
