1. I tried Facebook at home to exchange greetings with friends. I do not have an LHS Facebook account due to concerns. Too much Anderson Cooper warnings.
2. With vocabulary, I encouraged students with smart phones to note their vocaulary words and definitions for the week instead of completing the paper activity. Students, with their smart phone always in hand, are encouraged to view and review their vocabulary words through the week. Additionally, I offered that students write their sentences using their smart phone and then print out a hard copy for grading. May be in the future, the hard copy will be replaced by sending me the sentences via moodle or email.
My concern is that when the sentences are graded online, then deleted, there is no permanent record of completion. the result may be my word against the student's because no hard copy is kept in a binder.
3. I felt the noting of the vocabulary words on the smart phone would make the words more accessible on a daily basis for review. The problem is that not all students possess a smart phone so I have to make available both paper and smart phone applications.
Your Anderson Cooper comment is hilarious. In terms of your fear of he said she said concerning online assignments, you do have a record of e-mails, and therefore, have a record of assignments. Even if your grade is not on the assignment, you can prove whether or not the student actually turned in the assignment by checking your e-mails. I do this all the time.
ReplyDeleteAlthough my students do their work on paper at this time, the work is kept by them when we are having vocab quizzes or anything that they need to study. Unfortunately, some students are chronic losers (literally), so the evidence of their work frequently disappears anyway.
