One thing I have tried is to have my students do thier vocabulary lessons on Google documents. It was an epic fail. First I posted the vocabulary words on the blog itself. Then, I posted a link to the google document. I thought that would work, but when students tried to click on the link, nothing. We tried a couple of times but to no avail. It worked on my laptop of course but not the students. So, we scrapped it and went back to the old method. I will try again later. A link is posted here.
As far as devices. Yes all the time. Students are allowed to use smart phones, nooks, laptops to research, read and do any work. They can choose to read a book on the nook either from smashwords, google books or the library. On Fridays they may read thier favorite website after the vocabulary quiz, but they must reflect on what they have read (aviods the youtube stuff).
For the future I see students using more and more technology. I hope to use the computers and devices all the time and get away from using the pencil and paper routine. The task for me as an educator is to keep up with all of it and use it in an educational way in the classroom. We can't avoid it we might as well embrace it.
