Audio Project Idea - Hoffman
I plan on using Google Voice for my audio project. Students are going to read a short play while speaking into the phone. The students will later listen to their play and voices once posted to our classroom blog. This will be shared with other groups.
I plan on having my students use Audacity to record which strategy they prefer to use on certain math problems.
Audio assignment
I used Google Voice as a checking for understanding activity.
Students had to create a quick google voice message that showed knowledge of cones and rods.
The students did not know everyone would listen to them. The best part was the text of the messages. None of it was correct!

Kindergarten in our garden
My plan is to have my kindergarteners record their voices on Photo Story to tell us about "our tree and the tulips we planted" in our garden.

Video Project Idea--Baumgartner
We will be starting our ecology unit in the next week. There are several topics about water and how water becomes polluted. We will do a powerpoint project about pollution and it's effects on the environment, especially water. The powerpoint will feature VOICEOVER, where the students record their voice, as well as, any audio they chose. Music, sounds, etc. This will give the students a chance to create a movie like project. I am also looking at a way to incorporate one of the video/audio resources discussed last time.
Audio Project Idea Nahlik
I was planning on having some of my struggling readers record themselves while reading with Audacity. They will then be able to replay their recording over to hear how they sound. They will be able to check for fluency and fluctuations.

Audio Johnston
My 2nd grade LEAPers in my Growing Up Wolf elective class will study wolf howls as a form of animal communication. They will listen to and view spectrographs of different wolf howls and be able to recognize changes in pitch as well as the length of a howl. They will then work with their pack (small group) to invent their own communication howls and record them using Audacity. They will then analyze the audacity spectrographs looking for changes in the pitch and in the length of their howls.

I want to have the students tell one thing that they learned at their modules while working on assignment #1 using gogglevoice.
Sheryl NicklessI
I plan on recording one of my reading groups doing a reader's theater and posting the audio file on my blog.
audio project Humphries
Post audio of lecture.

Audio Project Idea Kimker
I am going to use Google Voice for my audio project. I will have the students in one class call me to report on their satisfaction with their lab groups. They can tell me what problems they are having and whether or not they would like to have changes made regarding the composition of their groups. I think this will be a great way for students to give me information that they would not want to share in front of other students.

I will use Audacity in a lab on sound. I will have the students record a whistle in the microphone and then say the letter e into the microphone. They then can expand the wave form to look at the individual waves that create the sound. From that they can determine the frequency and period of the wave form

Audio Project Judy Girard
Students will record themselves presenting their "How to" project for the Product Demonstration unit of the Sales Manual. They will then reflect on how they did, with the customer perception in mind.
Audio Project Idea Galakatos
I would like to have students send me audio commenting on what they understand most/least about an upcoming unit. So far, I have only used Audioboo to add an audio explanation to a video post.
Audio Project Idea, Schneider
Six students, of various math abilities, will use Google Voice to record a read aloud of a math journal entry. Students will be prompted to write the steps of adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. Students will then listen to their audio play back.
Audio Project Idea Shoults
My Graphic Design students do a project with ECE. They pair up with ECE students and create a children's book for the student. To start off they interview the students about their favorite superheroes, books, movies, color, etc. to get to know them. Last year they interviewed them and wrote down their discussions. This year they are going to voice record their interviews with the students so they don't have to have any breaks in conversation to write down notes. I got this idea from a student in Pilot who interviewed me for a quote and she just used her cell phone to record. It was great because there were no awkward silences while she wrote anything down, we just kept talking like normal conversation. I will have students that have access to a cell phone or recorder use that. The students who do not, can use pen and paper. I may experiment with some online options since they will be using computers too.
Audio Project Idea - Ramona Miles
In 7th grade German, students are going to call my Google voice number and leave a message. They will have to say their name, what day it is and what time it is in German. They'll get a grade bassed on their completeness, vocabulary usage, accuracy, and pronunciation.
They still have to complete a quiz over the current section and then learn to talk about days and time, so I'm hoping it will be done by our next Elite class. But since my 7th graders only meet every other day, it's going to be close!

Laura Heller's Reflection
I used youtube to show an amazing sidewalk artist in San Fran, CA. The students went crazy over it and keep asking to watch it again.
My students enjoyed looking at Matisse's artworks using the elmo. I love how large I can make the images!
I will be exploring other websites that will enrich the projects we create in art.
Lisa Quinn's Reflection
I am learning to feel more comfortable using the technology in my classroom. I am using the elmo daily with my nonverbal students. This allows them to be engaged in the lesson. I am excited about finding different curriculum over the internet that I can use with them.
I am working on trying to find a grant that I can write where I can get two ipads for my nonverbal students. Our technology teacher in our school is working with me by giving me excellent ideas on how to use the ipad with them.
Laura Heller's Audio Project
My audio goal is to involve the students and have them talk about their artwork. I'll have to look at my lesson plans and decide which grade level and what project will work the best.
Lisa Quinn's Plan for Audio
I will use itunes with my younger students in my classroom as a following direction activity as well as in a social group setting. They will listen to music where they have to follow along with the song. Itunes will also be used for a calming affect for students who may need help desclating when upset. I am hoping to be able to record some of the students voices so that they can hear how they sound and we can work on developing their articulation.

Vanessa Schmuck's Plan
I plan on using google voice in my classroom. Each student will get a chance to read one page of their leveled reading on the phone to work on fluency and expression. At the end of the day, I will play their recording so they can reflect on their own reading.

Student devices in the Classroom
I use my blog as a newsletter. I've changed the format and background to make it easier to read.
Some students have Nooks or like devices and our library has 15 new Nooks. I've brought them into the classroom as a way to introduce students to them. Our librarian put a short story on each. Students were shown how to log in and were allowed to use them for a week.
The 5th grade teachers are putting together a list of rules that would apply to use procedures.

Creech Plan
I set up a Google Voice number and account. I plan to record students singing and post it to my blog using Google Voice.
Hays Audio Project
I would like to use Photostory but not sure for what subject!
Mikolajczak Audio Assignment
I plan to use audio to either have students give their opinions on famous works of art or to critique their own artworks, then embed the audio on my blog with visuals. I need to evaluate which one of these options would work best with my upcoming curriculum.
From Lisa C. and Beth B.
We have to do this together b/c Lisa's computer shut down. The students are going to use our audio apps on our iPads and post them to our facebook pages/blogs. They could even talk in their native language to translate something written in English. Here is a phone message from Lisa to Beth using google voice
Gregory's Audio project
I want to try use Google Voice in my classroom. I am not sure yet exactly what this will look like or for what subject.
Christina's Audio Goal
My goal is to have students model a long division problem, and use audio (google voice) to explain the steps of the problem. I will post it on the blog.
Gordon Audio
I will have the students respond to a prompt or question as a reflection using my google voice number.
Goedde's Plan
The plan is to embed a voice message with a picture on a future blog post.
Patty Owen's reflections
I've been trying to communicate with my parents via a classroom blog. I like it much better than using a paper newsletter (I especially enjoy putting pictures of the students there) but am unsure of how many parents are actually viewing the blog on a consistent basis.
My students haven't brought in any devices as of yet. I am eagerly awaiting my class' turn to experience the new Nooks that are available in our library!
My classroom blog can be found at http://mrsowensotters.blogspot.com/

Jackie Theodore's Reflection
I am really enjoying using the blog as a way of parent communication. I am using this instead of a newsletter. I have received lots of positive comments about my blog. My favorite part is putting pictures and videos of the kids in action. This is such a great way for parents to see what their child is doing during the day!

I have not tried anything with student devices yet. We are waiting our turn for the school's Nooks.

Nelson Linck reflection
I had a student write the new post when he had a surprise return visitor for lunch. My student's father returned from Afghanistan and surprised him at lunch. I took a picture of them at lunch and afterwards the student wrote the new post to accompany the picture. With assistance, I helped him do the writing and I took a picture of his writing. His father shared that he was able to follow what we were doing in the classroom by following our blog.
I have not had student devices come into the classroom yet.
In the future I will encourage students to write Blog entries to give them a purpose for using their writing.

Mrs. Schmuck's Reflection
I have been updating my classroom Facebook page to give parents reminders about upcoming events. I posted a website for students to use at home to help with math fact fluency. The website is xtramath.org.
Our class has been working on using the classroom laptops using their school user names and passwords to import their Tungsten tests. We are writing electronic Valentine messages with our 5th grade buddies to the Gateway 180 Homeless Shelter. Kids are going to be typing messages, cards, and letters to the shelter as well as adding some clip art!
Now that technology has been installed in my room, I plan on using my Epson pens more!

Mikolajczak Reflection
I have changed the format of my blog to make it sequential and easier to read. I also corrected a problem I was having linking a slide show of photographs and linked my blog to my email signature, which has increased my views.
Kennerly Art Blog
I attended the student device mini-session at our building professional development, but I haven't used them in class yet since students have not brought them to Art. I also attended the promethian mini-session and learned lots of ideas I can use when I get clickers.
I am showing more kid art sites on my elmo and students are asking how they can access them at home, so I plan to link these sites to my blog. I need to find out which classroom teachers in my school have lots of kids bringing devices so I can plan activities for those grades.

Jill Lueking Reflections
In late fall I sent a newsletter to my parents using my distribution list and added some pictures of our Halloween party.
In social studies we researched famous African-Americans. I told the students that they could bring in their devices for the research. Some did and it worked well. It actually freed up the computers for other kids. Some used the Nook they got from the library.
I will encourage the class to bring their devices to school as long as they are on task.

Facebook Update
My goal was to add videos to my facebook page, which I have yet to do. I did attempt to add videos, but then realized that some of my students were not allowed to have pictures/videos posted. Is there a way around this? I'm wondering if they just didn't understand the consent form because they are ELL parents. So, my new goal is to write up a new consent form, one that is easier to understand. After I have everyone's permission, I will post videos. I've been pretty good about posting photographs because it's easier to see who is in them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mrs-Bridwells-ELLs/239475219438545

Hays Blog
I have started using student devices for research. This has worked well and it was easier then I anticipated getting them connected to the internet. I will continue to have the students use their devices in the future.
I have been using my blog to communicate with my parents. I am finding that more and more parents are referring to it on a daily basis. I will continue to add more pictures and other helpful information.

I have started using my blog as more than just an assignment blog. I use it to send out announcements and reminders to parents. Also I have started making quizzes on google docs and posting them to my blog.

My students have started bringing in more of their devices and we have spent some time during class exploring them. The kids are really excited to bring them and show others how they work. We have also used devices to do research for projects/papers. I would like to encourage more students to bring in the devices they have and incorporate them into the lessons.

Christina Phillips Reflection
One new thing I have been using google docs. I used google docs to help gather data about students' research projects. Writing Check-In. This google doc allowed me to pull up the students' three choices on one document. I am also using image mate to capture photos of student work to post on the blog Multiplication Work I have also been working to post more photographs of student activities Science Experiments.
I have had a lot of students bring in Nooks, Kindle Fires, and Itouches. In addition to having students access the elibrary. I am encouraging them to download educational apps to correspond with the curriculum. The novelty of the devices is still causing behavior problems at times.
In the future I want to find a way to implement my students devices with math.

With my social media portals, I have been more frequent with updating, I still have room for improvement, but am making progress. I have also been adding more pictures so that my parents stay more updated on what is happening on a daily basis. My students have been using the blog a lot for review games and centers, but I would still like to add more quizzes/commenting on there as homework to make it even more interactive.

The students have been bringing their devices and using them mostly as eReaders, which is good, but I would still like to incorporate them with more uses. I have also noticed that some parents are still reluctant to allow their students to bring them in at the elementary level. The students have been able to log on with my assistance on most devices (I did have some difficulty with a "Simple Touch Nook", though).

I used my blog (that is linked to my classroom facebook page) to notify parents about upcoming classroom activities, field trips, and concerts. I also post pictures and information about classroom activities and concerts that have taken place. I would like to use this blog to interact more with my students, providing them a place to post reflections or post surveys.
I have not used student devices yet. I just got an iphone for Christmas and am learning how to find and install good apps for music class. Last week, I shared three apps with my students that I thought were good for learning to read music, play piano, and guitar at the elementary level.
I will ask students to bring in their devices next week to play music games with the younger students and do composer research projects with the older students.

I tried a project with 4th graders. I had them bring in their device and only about half remembered or had one. We went on to Google Translate to find how to write our names in Chinese Characters. At first things were going smoothly, then someone figured out that Translate "talks" and will say what you typed in. So I had a class full of Chinese names being read. Then the students began entering other words and funny sentences into the program. I did not try this again with the other 4th grades beacuse it I felt it did not work.

Lay PALS program
I have tried using a facebook page to keep my parents informed but they have not responded positively to this new change in acquiring information. I have also attempted to Blog with them and this has not worked well either. Due to their own fear, there is a parent meeting scheduled for February where we will discuss this and walk them through how to follow the class, etc.
I have not used student devices with my students as they are severely disabled and cannot handle them.
I will continue to attempt to get the parents on board with this new form of communication of using my blog http://www.smspals.blogspot.com/

Hoffman's Blog
I posted four websites (BrainPop, Tagxedo, Starfall, Inference Riddles) on my private classroom blog so the students can come into my classroom and click on an appropriate website for them to practice while waiting for their entire group to arrive. I have a cross/categorical classroom, so most of the students come and go all day long. The students love to have control over their time while waiting to begin a new lesson, even for a few minutes. Due to confidentiality issues of students, I cannot post my link, which is private.
One student brought in his new ipad and shared this with different groups, and he gave me a lesson on what all an ipad can do. We have been using several phones to take pictures of items included in lessons and sharing the results using ELMO.
I plan on adding more websites to our classroom blog for the students to access. I just had my LINC installed, so my students and I are planning on investigating all the uses available to use to include additional means of incorporating technology into our classroom. We will continue to take pictures on our phones to help share with others. The students enjoy this activity using phones because several have taken pictures at home to bring in to share.

Mrs. Ryan's Blog
I have not been good at updating my blog. Life...
However, I used my blog as a means of research for my students during their Native American projects in early December. I put in links for each Native American group that I had students researching. They used the blog to access the info and worked togeher to make a Photostory. The kids loved going to the blog to see the websites that they could look at for the project. Everything turned out great. My next hurdle is to get the Photostories complete and post those onto the blog for all to watch.
Mrs. Ryan's Blog
I haven't been able to try anything new with student devices because the access to internet has been tricky at Crestwood. I opened up a "Lunch Bunch" to my class stating that they could bring their devices and we can chat over lunch about how we can use them and such. I only have 2 students attend, both with Kindle Fire's and we couldn't get them to connect. Work in progress :)
I really hope to use my blog much more in my daily/weekly class communications. As of right now, the students are excited to publish their Photostories so that their parents can see. I would really like to try using the blog as a format for book discussions during the Daily 5. Hoping for this to be my next project.

Third Grade Classroom Blog
I started a blog to better communicate with families. I have received a very positive response from the parents in my classroom, and as a result I really don't think I'll ever go back to a paper copy of a newsletter! I have not made a post on it since December because of a death in my family (and being generally overwhelmed), but this weekend I plan on getting back into things. My students also really enjoy having a blog and can't wait for me to post their pictures and video.
In my classroom, I currently have about 9 students that are bringing some sort of personal device and using it each day. At first it was challenging to get each one connected to the wireless internet, and most days they tell me it won't let them connect. Some of my students even try to bring in their Nintendo DSI because it can connect to the internet, but I really don't encourage them to bring those. I have students reading on them during independent reading time, and these devices are really handy when we are doing group work and the class has to share 9 computers. Overall, I really enjoy students bringing in their own devices and let them use them whenever we can. I will definately continue to encourage my students to bring them in the future.

Whittington student device reflections...
I have used student devices in a very limited manner. So far, Keyboarding students have used theirs for listening to music while they are on the Type to Learn program. Drama students have used theirs as timing devices during public speaking practice and performance. The kids love using their own devices, however mangement and supervision and usage is some times challenging. Middle schoolers are quick to veer off into cyber-la la land. Mainly FB. I am anxious to use them for more as my confidence in supervision grows.
Third Grade Blog-"the new newsletter"
I have implemented a blog using blogger. I have really enjoyed using the blog as a portal to post classroom and school updates, reminders, our curriculum for the week, and pictures of students working. I have received a lot of great feedback from the parents of my third graders. They love seeing the pictures of their kids during school, and they feel more connected to their child's education. I have also received emails after a blog post relating to curriculum and how they, as parents, can help support at home. Here's the link:

We have been experimenting with student devices in my classroom as well. I have a few students who bring in the Nook and they read it during silent reading time. They seem to love it and the other students are really intrigued by this cool, electronic book. The problem that I am having is with the internet connection. Some of the students can connect to the wifi but others cannot. The technology reps at the schools, also seem to be struggling with the connection problems.
In the future, I want to continue to update my blog a few times a week and post pictures/video's. I would like to begin having the students video other classmates and prepare for next year. I thought it would be fun to have my current students talk about our classroom for the next wave of kiddos. I would also like to find out more about student devices and how to use them best in my classroom.

Stortzum-DECA experience with student devices
New public portal-I am trying to post a weekly list of assignments into my classroom Facebook page. The problem is, with 5 preps, I feel like it takes forever to put this up. I am working on doing it once a week. I am also experimenting with creating a calendar in Google, uploading it to my blog and then putting a link in facebook to the blog. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Stortzum-LHS/242041882518698 (My classroom page)
Student devices-I had my students use the GPS feature in NYC last week to determine our location relative to our hotel. This was a great way for students to problem solve on their own when out on free time instead of calling me if they needed directions or were trying to get back to the hotel. I felt it gave them a feeling of more independence instead of making me their first call.
I would like to try using the student devices more in class, just need to find the time to figure out a way to incorporate it into a current lesson or create a new one.
Poetry Blogging, Grade 5
My students and I will begin blogging during our poetry unit. My goal is for students to learn how to use best practices when posting comments on-line, and to find a poet or a poem they connect with. I will encourage students to look at various poetry Web sites, and to share any poems they enjoy and comment on posted poems.
I will start the unit by presenting a BrainPop video on blogging, and we will discuss best blogging practices. Their first activity will be to comment on the BrainPop video.

Nahlik Survey Monkey project
One new thing I tried with my public portal, was creating and linking a survey to my web blog, www.jnahlik.blogspot.com. The survey was asked the students various questions about the set up of the classroom, preferred reading styles, and preferred teaching styles. The students logged on to my blog, found the link, and completed the survey.
One new thing I tried using student devices was having my students use their devices for research on an expository writing project. The students loved being able to use them in class and showing each other how to log on to the schools network. Based on this successful lesson I have created new lessons which will allow the students opportunities to use their personal devices.

My efforts to start a Blog-TWaldschmidt
I have tried several times to start a blog with my new Kindergarten class. However, I must save it incorrectly, because it is never there when I go to view it. I am very frustrated. I don't want to publish it to the public, I just want to try it out first.
Sobeck's student devices
My blog is fairly new. I have been working on encouraging the parents and students to visit the blog on a regular basis. I want this to become part of their daily routine to retrieve information regarding the class. I am also working on encouraging feedback on the class blog.
Regarding students devices, we have been developing a set of rules and regulations on the proper ways to use their devices. With the diversity of devices and the relative immaturity of the class, it is important that they realize they may not take random pictures of students or teachers, visit inappropriate sites, or use their devices for other than educational purposes.

2 and 3 digit multiplication / brainetics scam?
I saw an informercial about brainetics. This man was selling "Brainects" and students were doing all these math problems in their heads. 3 digit x 3 digit multiplication, 2 digit x 2 digit multiplication, division, etc. in a matter of seconds. I was interested immediately. I used youtube to teach multiplication as well as to show my students some of these multiplication tricks. I then explained further "why" these multiplication tricks worked which was kind of brilliant but kind of a scam since it was using the basic principals of multiplication.

Blog..... trying to get back into the groove
In the beginning of the school year I created a blog that would relay information to parents and students. Up until Christmas break I regularly posted photos and short blurbs about what we were doing in our classroom- and the parents enjoyed it. Since our return from break I haven't posted- or even thought about posting. My plan is to begin again this week.... or at least early next week.
Only parents and classroom staff have access to this blog to protect the privacy of our students.
I am currently exploring apps for the Kindle Fire and iPad that could be downloaded to devices brought in by my students. I have found that the Kindle Fire is not able to access nearly as many apps as the iPad.

Public portal and student devices
I will be contacting my buddy school in Joplin to match up our classes for buddies so that they can blog to each other.
New devices - students have not brought in devices, but I have my own personnal Nook, and am working on using that in my classroom.
I will allow my students to use my Nook to read.

Kindergarten Blog
I purchased a camera that takes still pictures and videos. I recorded videos of one of my students reading a book she had written and another reading a poem to her grandmother in class. I took pictures of the students working on their ABC Dictionaries and playing games and making crafts at their holiday party. I heard that some grandparents enjoyed seeing their grandkids on my Blog. I've been encouraging my students to remind their parents to view it so they can see how hard we're working in kindergarten.

Laurie Johnston: sharing student work with families
I taught two 5th grade art classes last semester and the plan had been to hold an art gallery evening to for parent and friends to come and see the student art. At the last minute we lost our gallery space. So, after much discussion with the students about how to share the artwork, we settled on a blog to display all of the artwork for family and friends to see. The blog turned out great and the parents loved it.

Mrs. Johnston's Medieval History Blog for students
The purpose of my blog is to engage students in thinking about topics we are studying in our Medieval Studies LEAP classroom. Students come to LEAP one day a week, so my goal is to encourage students to extend their learning beyond our classroom walls.
Blog posts happen usually twice a week. The first post is usually made by students during class. The second is made by me later in the week, usually Fridays. Students generally go to the blog on the weekends. My post includes an Exit Ticket question related to our studies, and also a video or web site that adds something new to one of our topics. Students are required to complete an Exit Ticket question and submit their response on the blog. The Exit Ticket info automatically goes into a Google doc spread sheet that only I can see. So far, students have responded very positively to the blog.

I have been uploading videos to my Facebook. Parents have been thrilled to watch their child work in class. I also took the time to show each group of students how to access my website and Facebook page. I borrowed laptops for the day and each child went through the steps. This was VERY useful! http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Mrs-Carsons-ELL-Class/165312963551982
As for student devices, not many of my students have one. Those that do, bring them in occasionally and I let them use them. I was able to help them set up WiFi.

I started a 7th grade Science blog. I am posting pictures and videos of the students at work in the new science lab. Here is a link to my blog. http://sperrengschneiderscience.blogspot.com/
During labs when there is a calculator needed, I allow the students to use their cell phones. In class we have done a few activities when the students get online to research or look up examples. I have allowed students to use their cell phones or nook/kindle for these purposes.
I will continue to allow students to use their cell phones, nooks, and/or kindle for internet searches and calculators.

I created a teacher Facebook page. I am unveiling my page to my students as we start our new chapter. Also, we are linking my page to our 6th grade team page in Facebook.
I have yet to try anything new with student devices. I do allow my students to bring in their nooks and they can read at the end of the hour if we have time left or if they get done early with their assignment.
I would like to try posting new videos to my teacher page on Facebook.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Althages-Science-Page/144366762330694

Elite 2 post
I tried to add a blog to this thing. I have no acess to student devices so I haven't done anything with that, and with that being said, I am unsure how I would use it in the future.
I used my facebook page for information about Key Club activities in addition to class assignments. I also changed the picture next to the messages. I also added a powerpoint to facebook. http://www.facebook.com/?sfrm=1#!/pages/Kimker-FACS/238100476249835
In class, I had students use their phones to give them reminders to turn in a paper their parents were to sign.
I'm still waiting for some of the slips with parents' signatures so I'm not sure how well that worked, but it couldn't have hurt. Most of my students do not use planners so if they will use an electronic device at least they probably won't lose it.

I linked this blog to the school website to make it easier for parents and students to access the information. I haven't really used Facebook yet.
I haven't really used student devices, although several students are now using their laptops and accessing my handouts via my website to do their work all on their laptops (especially a few students w/IEPs). Students have also used their phones as timers/calculators, but nothing exciting yet...(time factor!)
I would like to set up links to Moodle and Google calendar, and also sync the calendar to my phone. I'll need time and some help w/this.
For AP physics 1 I posted a series of java applets in my chapter on sound. The idea is to give students an additional resource to further explore the subject.

I added a new video to my blog but really have kept up to date with it. I have had difficulty routinizing taking video during labs and activities. As far as kids using their devices, I haven't done much. Mostly I see Kindle's and Nooks. I could see doing some polling with them on those.

Honestly, I really have not tried anything new since last session. I have continued using Facebook, Twitter, Moodle, and have posted to the new blog I started the previous time.
Student devices - I allow them to access Moodle and classzone.com for the textbook while in class.
I will continue the use of each of these things in my classroom. I do want to try polling with cell phones. Flo's idea with ACT questions is great.

I have not made use of the blog I created last time for honors geometry.
I used poll everywhere in my trig classes to have them respond to a prompt.
I intend to use poll everywhere again in the near future with both courses.

I utilized my Honors Geometry Blog by introducing my student teacher to the class and communtiy. Also, I have used it for class schedules. I did my first "Poll Everywhere" in my Trig class to practice a ACT warm-up. I see myself using this more often.
Daria reflections
1. I started a blog asking others what they thought of the idea of asking my students to post an assignment - a paragraph, essay, answer to a homework question, etc. - have other students read it, and give their comments about it. However, none of the students has done it yet.
2. I haven't used any of the devices with my students, but my students are always taking out their phones and I have to get them to put them away so they can work. However, now that I think of it more, maybe I can ask them to send their questions to me on their phone if they have internet and I could respond to them.
What do you think?

The one new thing I tried on my public portal is placing a web address and assignment on my google calendar. I like this method because the students have a one spot stop for their assignment info. My moodle is also fully public so students and/or parents do not have to log in to see the assignment info.

What is one new thing you tried using student devices?
This week I will be using the new "bloggies" (like a flip cam) that the library just got in. My students will be making a glogster poster to represent verb families and they will use the bloggie to create a video under a minute with a creative/unique way to remember their verb family and the family rule. This will be my first time using glogster with students, and although it is not a device, it is a new technology that I will be using in the classroom and am excited about the possibilities(plus students don't have to buy posters!).
Based upon what you tried, how will you use this in the future?
If the project goes well, I am considering using the "bloggie" cameras to do a project on VEMO or a similar video posting website with my Spanish 1 students.

At first I thought I could use my blog as another way to keep parents up to date with homework in the classroom. My team using our homework hotline and our school website to get this done, so I decided to switch to communicating with my challenge level parents to keep them up to date on the differences between the challenge level and regular level classes. I emailed my challenge parents, but have no followers. :-( But I will keep trying.
I had students bring in internet devices to do some light research for a couple of assignments. It seems to work pretty well for simple googleing. I found I have to be very specific about what they had to look up to avoid 20 minutes of wasted time on Wikipedia.
I plan on continuing to try keeping up to date with my challenge kids and using the devices for research in the classroom. I have not tried any polling sites, but that sounds like it would be super cool.

Hausner audio project
For my audio project I am going to assign each student one place around the school and have them take a picture of that place. Then, they need to write out a description of what they would say about that place during a tour. Once their script has been edited by another student and read over by the teacher, they will call our class google voice number and record their description. Then the picture and the description will both be uploaded onto our class blog as a virtual tour of the school.
The purpose of this project is to improve their writing and speaking skills. I also hope to encourage them to help new students with their tour.

Deanne's Reflection
Created a new blog in blogger.com

At the one of the last Elite sessions I had set up a Twitter account. My idea was to use this to inform parents and remind students of the daily assignments done in class. I sent out an email to all parents on our team to inform them of the Twitter account and what was going to be posted. I am still not sure how many parents are using this to stay informed, but I have been reminding students daily to check the account. The account address is www.twitter.com/baumscience6
Now that second semester has started, I have started attaching any powerpoints that includes notes, pictures, or any information needed for class. This way, if a student is absent, they can access the notes they missed through Twitter. Parents can also double check their son's/daughter's work that was done in class. I do know that the notes have been used by two students and my hope is that it catches on with all students.
At the middle school, student devices are far and few between so I haven't had an assignment geared toward student devices. If more student devices show up in the future, I am more than willing to start using those types of assignments.

I originally was in the process of creating a Team Facebook page. After creating and beginning to
work on it, we decided that we did not want a team Facebook page. (This was decided yesterday in Team). I am now trying to weigh the options of an individual classroom page vs an individual blog.
I have not done a lot with the student decives. Students have used their phones several times to look
up the definition of a word up.
I want to start either an individual blog or a facebook page for my own classroom. I need a little more information in order to make a good decision.

I have been using e-mail because I am not comfortable with social networking yet. The Facebook route has not been successful for me. I plan on trying a blog to speed my daily contact with parents as to what transpired in my class for the day and the homework.
No new student devices have been used. I have stuck with using just the basic Elite screen to work on internet games. Many of my students do not have their own devices. Access to computers for each individual is limited.

Brad Snyder's Reflection
For my public portal, I revised my facebook page. I had started a class page and decided it would be more beneficial to create a Team 7 Green page instead. I also tried to link a youtube lesson to the page to see if it would work. For my advanced classes I tried to introduce to concept of flipping the classroom. I wanted them to try to view a youtube video in class as a test but ran into several difficulties. Initially we were having trouble accessing the network. Some students aren't allowed by their parents to go to youtube, and those that were allowed were usually blocked from the site.

I haven't done anything big new things with my blog, but I have experimented with changing colors, fonts, etc. I plan to restructure my calendar page, so that the events for Truman show up in a different color than the events for Sperreng. I think it should be as easy as creating a new calendar in google and making both schools show up, but I haven't found the time to do this yet. You can check out my blog at ell.hausner.me.
As far as using student devices, I haven't used them yet. I have small classes, so it really isn't a management issue keeping me from trying them. It is more of the issue that none of my students have devices to bring to class. Eventually I would like to use student devices.

I created a FB page and posted daily what we do in each of our classes. At the beginning of second semester, I emailed all parents introducing myself and providing them with information about my school center webpage as well as my Facebook page. Some parents have liked the page to stay informed. I also introduced the FB page to my students and had them logon to the computers in my classroom and like the page. I will try to keep some data this semester to see if this extra form of communication has helped students keep updated with class assignments, deadlines, and tests.

I haven't done so much with student devices. Students all have access to computers in my classroom, so the need for bringing devices is not as great as in other classrooms. I would like to try using the polleverywhere.com soon.

Regarding my public portal, I have been working on using Facebook and Tumblr to keep my students updated with assignments coming up as well as links with more information or current news posts. I use Tumblr to post links to websites that may not necessarily be what we are discussing in class or a current assignment, but it has relevant news that relates to the class. I don't want to bombard their Facebook with too much information so Tumblr is a great place to post extra information or extra ideas for review.

My efforts at starting a Blog
I have Kindergarten LEAP starting next week, and I am going to try to do a blog with them . I want their families to see what we are doing each day and hear about it too.

She is getting very short tempered with Mr. Hilton Maybe she is too good for us.

I have used Facebook to update the community about the Lindbergh Wrestling team. I've found it very easy to use and anticipate using a different page to update students and parents about the details of my social studies classes. I'm still a little fuzzy on all of the aspects of facebook. For instance, I tried to create a poll to ask members of the community their opinion on a given topic, but had a little difficulty finishing this.
As far as student use of personal devices, I feel like it's an up-hill battle. Only about 5-7 of my students have smartphones that they bring to school. The good news is that those handful of students have used their devices for research as well as to view websites that I have brought up in class.
As time goes on, I assume more students will begin bringing devices that can be used in class. If this is the case, I anticipate using smart devices for a wide-range of activities. I'd really like to begin using Poll Everywhere to find out how students feel about specific without the fear of public ridicule.

1. The English 2 Teachers have started a Facebook Page and are encouraging students and parents to "like" it and read what is happening on a daily basis. We also post work that is done in class and work that is due for homework. We used to send out group emails and now we are sending the group emails to make parents aware of the new facebook page and directions to follow it.

I also made a blog http://jenellsworth.blogspot.com/ But since then we came up with the facebook page and therefore, I will not be using it.
2. and 3. New EOC Moodle in classes with laptops. Having trouble all logging in at the same time. Trying to figure out best way.....hoping the day of EOC this is not a problem.

I updated my Moodle page by adding my google calendar to it. I plan on using that next year to keep parents informed and track the pace of the course.
For student devices, I assigned a project in which they would have to interview someone. I allowed them to use their cellphones during the hour in order to complete that requirement of the project.
I like the google calendar, but I need to figure out a better way for parents to view it... most parents don't have access to the Moodle.

With the beginning of a new semester and a new group of 125 students, I was able to introduce my facebook page to all of them. I have found that not many have even "liked" the page. I do not want to make them use it. So I will see how it goes.
In terms of devices..... I have encouraged students to bring in new laptops, notebooks, ipads, etc. in order to take notes and use them for other things in class. I do have more using it now than I did last semester
I think I will continue to encourage them to "like" the facebook page maybe trying to give some info for quizes or tests to make them realize tha it may be useful.

I surveyed all my students at the end of 1st semester about technology improvements that would help them in the classroom. Students' top responds are being implemented. 1) Class Facebook page with updates on all due dates and tests 2) All handouts and powerpoints are on moodle including our class calendar.

Reflections
One new thing I tried with my website was that I added a link/information on my site on how to get to the online text. Also, I've been keeping track of how many students are actually using my "Document Manager" to look at documents. On several of the items there was a significant number of kids who are actually doing this--one document was used/downloaded 41 times (out of my 94 students!) One thing I did with student devices was that I've had kids get out their device and use a dictionary feature (if they had one) to look up a word on a worksheet they were trying to complete.

Technology Update
I have added to my A.P. Psychology Blog http://www.kateriwattersblog.blogspot.com/ since we last met although I confess I have no followers. As for smart devices in class, use has been limited to organizational use for students such as letting them put assignments in setting alarms. We will be doing an assignment soon where timers are involved but that is it. I look forward to "clickers" in class!
Technology in German class
Since our last session, I have set up a quizlet account and added flashcard sets for 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I showed the kids in class how to get into the account so they can practice at home. If they sign in with Facebook, the Quizlet app should show up on their Facebook page, so students can go directly from Facebook to Quizlet.
I have set up a Google voice account and plan to give my students their first oral assignment soon. They will call my number and then speak in German about a topic they are studying.
I am continuing to use Facebook for homework posting.

1. I tried Facebook at home to exchange greetings with friends. I do not have an LHS Facebook account due to concerns. Too much Anderson Cooper warnings.
2. With vocabulary, I encouraged students with smart phones to note their vocaulary words and definitions for the week instead of completing the paper activity. Students, with their smart phone always in hand, are encouraged to view and review their vocabulary words through the week. Additionally, I offered that students write their sentences using their smart phone and then print out a hard copy for grading. May be in the future, the hard copy will be replaced by sending me the sentences via moodle or email.
My concern is that when the sentences are graded online, then deleted, there is no permanent record of completion. the result may be my word against the student's because no hard copy is kept in a binder.
3. I felt the noting of the vocabulary words on the smart phone would make the words more accessible on a daily basis for review. The problem is that not all students possess a smart phone so I have to make available both paper and smart phone applications.

I have posted various web sites, homework, and team reminders on School Center.
I have been encouraging students to bring their electronic devices to class. They are using them for class notes and other various assignments. Getting students to bring their devices on a daily basis is the key.
I took my classes to the library for presentations on electronic devices and Nooks.

Yoakum Reflection
One thing I have tried is to have my students do thier vocabulary lessons on Google documents. It was an epic fail. First I posted the vocabulary words on the blog itself. Then, I posted a link to the google document. I thought that would work, but when students tried to click on the link, nothing. We tried a couple of times but to no avail. It worked on my laptop of course but not the students. So, we scrapped it and went back to the old method. I will try again later. A link is posted here.
As far as devices. Yes all the time. Students are allowed to use smart phones, nooks, laptops to research, read and do any work. They can choose to read a book on the nook either from smashwords, google books or the library. On Fridays they may read thier favorite website after the vocabulary quiz, but they must reflect on what they have read (aviods the youtube stuff).
For the future I see students using more and more technology. I hope to use the computers and devices all the time and get away from using the pencil and paper routine. The task for me as an educator is to keep up with all of it and use it in an educational way in the classroom. We can't avoid it we might as well embrace it.

The past month in technology world
As a sixth grade English teacher, not many students have devices in the classroom. However, the ones that do are using them to read books in the small amount of time we have to read books. I admit that they love to read on their devices, which include phones, Kindles, Nooks, etc., but those students already loved to read:) One student, who doesn't love to read:( has already been caught playing games in classes (mine and another), when he was supposed to be reading/working on his device. Oh well, it's not unexpected.
My personal blog had a few comments, and I recently posted a generalized post for January. My goal is for students to make comments to each other while working on English, and get assistance with homework or projects. I have had a very few, but at least a few. Attempts will be made in the classroom to remind students to visit with each other, and me, on the blog for assistance while working.

AS THE NEW YEAR HAS STARTED, I RECEIVED SOME NEW TOYS TO USE IN MY ROOM. I FINALLY GOT A PAIR OF THE INTERACTIVE PENS! I TOOK A COUPLE OF DAYS TO PLAY W THEM MYSELF AND HAVE STARTED TO INCREASE USAGE EACH DAY. THE STUDENTS LOVE TO PARTICIPATE BY SHOWING THEIR SKILLS WITH THE NEW EQUIPMENT. AS FAR AS MY BLOG SITE IT HAS HAS SAT IDLE SENSE I STARTED IT. MY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION FOR SCHOOL IS TO MAKE MORE TIME FOR IT. I WOULD LIKE TO START SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT THAN JUST A HOMEWORK BLOG. I NEED TO BRAINSTORM ON A NEW STUDENT FRIENDLY RESOURCE FOR MY CLASSES.
Giesing Reflection
I have been using blogger daily for the past couple of weeks and really love it. Right, now I'm still pretty basic, just posting daily homework updates and reminders of upcoming events. But I invision having it be more interactice, posting questions for homework and allowing/encouraging students to post responses and read each other's thoughts. I also have set a blog up for the girls soccer teams, but just getting started with that. Angie helped me link it to Facebook, so everything I post in the blog goes directly to those that prefer to access info that way. I'm loving it, and that's a big step for me. The coolest is that I typically enter info from my phone so, I don't even need to be in front of my computer. I want to make it a bigger part of my class than just a homework reminder.
In terms of student devices in class, I have been surprised that students do not have as much "stuff" as I thought they might. In a typical middle school class, I'm finding 5-6 students on average with data plans on their phones, so we haven't been able to utilize my blog in class yet as much as I would like. To date, I've had one student bring in a tablet, no p.c. yet. I am encouraging them to do so, but just not getting the response. That leads to the other frustration that most of my students still have not "liked" my facebook or taken the time to enter an email account to follow the blog. I am probably at around 20% of my class using one or the other. But, I'm excited about the possibilities and enjoying the new communication piece.

As far as student devices I don't use them in class because my students don't have them and if they have some sort of device they don't bring them to school. My students aren't always trusted and some lack the level of responsibility to have a device and bring to school.
I did create Facebook pages for two of my classes. In my Communication class I am planning on teaching the students how to use Facebook as a communication tool and internet safety. I have not notified students and parents of my Facebook pages. I created them just before break.

Since our last meeting I uploaded a picture onto my team Facebook page as well as uploaded a picture to our team blog which is linked to our Facebook page.

I was able to figure out how to upload the pictures on my own which made me feel pretty good, but the picture didn't post as a Facebook comment so I'm not sure what I needed to do.
For the past couple of days I have been having my students work on a project where they had to do research on leaders from World War II. I asked them to bring in their own devices. This has been a fairly frustrating experience. Less than 1/2 of the students brought in devices and 90% of those were phones and Ipods. We had a lot of trouble with the kids being able to use the devices on the network. I had to call our building tech Tony in almost every class and couldn't in my last class because he leaves at 1:30. There were even devices he couldn't get to work. Using these these devices to do research is not easy either because they are so small. I hate to sound so negative, but this was not a good experience.

Cooper Gazette
CooperConfab blog continues to grow at a steady, dependable rate: at this moment, I have 3 followers. But there seems to be a lot of "buzz." No one should be alarmed if, by the end of the semester, I have reached double digits.
More good news. My Twitter account is known to at least a dozen people, all (or nearly all) LHS teenagers. I have tweeted in 2012.
My facebook page, too, is a byword among the teen set. I remain quite disappointed that I have yet to successfully link my tweets and blog posts to fb.
Loads of devices are regularly employed in my classroom. On one particularly charming occasion, one of my students (forgetting, apparently, that I was a member of her particular fb group), uploaded, during class, a post to this effect: "Is anyone even listening to Cooper now? Because I'm not." True. She then removed the post. Too late.

I have been using my blog a lot! I recently added pages to my blog to make it easier for students to follow. Before, they would have to scroll through all the posts I made to find relevant information for them. Now, I have 10 pages or so where students can find specific class homework, useful website links, videos I use and teach with a lot, and test information. It is much more organized now! :)

Roegner's Reflections
I haven't really tried anything new yet--I still have less than ten followers. :-( However, I have thought about using the page to not only make announcements about gifted programming at LHS but also to post new stories or columns about issues pertaining to gifted education. My hesitation is that since it is an LHS page, not a personal page, I feel like I need to be very careful about what I repost. For example, I read a great story about gifted girls from the Huffington Post, but would Lindbergh want me to repost something from the Huffington Post? Here's the link.
As far as student devices are concerned, I allow students to use their laptops, Kindles, phones, etc., for reading their texts, doing research, and writing papers during class work days. I am still hesitant to use things like the online polling sites because A) I don't think it would work better for my purposes than paper and pencil or raised hands and B) as a person with a "dumb" phone and limited texting, I am sensitive to the kids who might feel uncomfortable by this kind of activity.
P.S. I still need whiteboards. :-)

Elite 2 Training--Public Portals and Student Devices
My newest attempt at "Facebooking" was to create a Facebook page for a club I have created for women aged 50 and over to announce monthly activities throughout St. Louis. Even though the club was originally created for the "mature, older" women at LHS, it is now open to any woman aged 50 and older who wants to make new friendships. The club is called "Nifty at Fifty Club" and can be located on http://www.facebook.com under that title.
As far as experimenting with student devices, I have "discovered" that the LHS library now has the PLAYAWAY available to teachers and students. At present, I am using the PLAYAWAY to play "Romeo and Juliet" to my freshmen students.
